Marc Jacobs FALL 2010 READY-TO-WEAR

I´ve read in nymag.com Marc Jacobs is to America what Miuccia Prada is to Italy, what a more accurate statement!

Marc Jacobs´ collection is always one of the most expected in NYFW, as well as his subversive declarations. Jacobs said after the show: "There's so much striving for newness now that newness feels less new", probably to defend himself against possible criticism that could brand his collection of little groundbreaking.

But what he showed at his fall collection was a vintage look full of comfortable clothing -yet feminine- for a modern woman, with sculptural tailoring and directional detail.

Although we expected no celebrities in the front row he has Vogue's Grace Coddington and weird style rookie ego-blogger-net-celebritiy Tavi Gevinson. In the front row there was more interesting people: Bergdorf Goodman's Roopal Patel, Neiman Marcus' Ann Stordahl and Ken Downing, and Saks Fifth Avenue's Ron Frasch and Stephen Sadove, who watched the show at the same time twitters did.

The stage was crafted from stapled brown paper that was removed and all the models were revealed, walking the runway to the beat of the song “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, soundtrack from “The Wizard of Oz”.

Key items: Long grey tailored suit coat with criss-cross back detail, over-the-knee A-line skirt, white-seamed grey over-the-knee shift, knit tank with front panel of feathers, rounded feather miniskirt, wide over-the-knee culottes in soft grey, A-line alpine intarsia sweater over soft A-line skirt, brown Mongolian fur shrug, tailored overcoat with bustled back hem, black cardigan with sleeves in silver sequins, sparkly see-through trench with fur collar, classic grey pantsuit with elegant wide-leg trouser, longish Mongolian fur coat in pearl white, tank dress with antique wide straps and rounder contrast-texture skirt, knot-front draped 40s-ish dress, crushed velvet gown, floor-length yellow sequin mermaid skirt, floor-length velvet skirt with oversized cable sweater, silver foil gown with fishtails, strapless ball gown with prairie floral print

Colour: Base of pale grey with pearl, cream, nude, silver, brown, black, navy, rust and yellow

Print & pattern: Prairie floral

Fabric & knit: Wool, cashmere, diagonally striped wool, cable knit, intarsia knit, crushed velvet, chiffon, tweed, Mongolian fur, feathers
